6 Weeks Old

smile

Here's a semi-smile from n. You should see his full-on smile--very cute. Too bad my photography skills are sorely lacking. His acne healed but is flaring up again. This time we're fighting back with Aquaphor, and it is working to some extent.

5 Year Anniversary!

Hard to believe, but last Friday was our five year wedding anniversary. We celebrated by going out to dinner at Spaghettini's on Sunday, sans kids. We chose this place because: 1. D had never been, and he was always saying he wanted to go. 2. It's very close to my parents' place (aka the babysitters). 3. They are having a special all April and May on Sunday nights where pastas and salads are 50% off! The waitress told us to tell everyone we know about the deal, so here you go!

I had the butternut squash ravioli and D had the seafood pasta. Mine was a little too sweet for my liking (tasted kind of like pumpkin pie). We also shared a walnut apple blue cheese salad--very tasty.

Improved ABCs

Recently, k has been singing her ABCs about 50 times a day. She's getting better...

Crabby Soul

Today n is one month old. Poor thing has infant acne and cradle cap, so he isn't too attractive. Plus, he doesn't seem happy unless he is feeding or sleeping. My mom's 1975 copy of La Leche League's "Nursing Your Baby" hit it on the head when it says, "a one-month-old baby is often a rather crabby soul".

Easter Festivities

Yesterday we started out the day with an egg hunt for k in our family room. Even with all of the practice, k still wasn't too sure about hunting for eggs with all of the other kids after service. She definitely is not agressive by nature. Before service our church had a breakfast and craft for the kids. After church, we went to my parents' house for lunch. When we were done eating, the guys watched the rest of the Masters' Tournament, and the rest of us (and n) just talked and played. It is so nice to have a relaxing afternoon like that.

First Easter
Baby's First Easter outfit from brother in law's grandma. Check out the feet...too cute. And on the back, there is a little cottontail. I know we can't get away with outfits like this for too long, so might as well do it when we can, right?

Egg Hunt
I'm glad k agreed to wear this hat some of the time this year. Last year was a no-go. I like the idea of a new dress for Easter. I remember having a new one every year, sometimes made by my mom. I bought this one for k during the after-Easter sales last year. I already have k's dress for next year!

Cypress Egg Hunt

First off, Happy Easter, everyone! It is fun now that k can get into the Easter egg hunts and bunnies. However, it will be even more exciting when she can appreciate why we celebrate Easter--Jesus' death and resurrection!

Yesterday we went to an egg hunt sponsored by the city of Cypress. It was much larger than I expected. For the 0-3 year olds, there was a mini obstacle course. Not surprisingly, k was not too keen on the idea. D did manage to get her to go through the tunnel, though.

At the end of the course, a volunteer threw two plastic eggs on the ground for k to pick up. I was just starting to complain to D about the fact that I thought two eggs was kind of chintzy, when k got really excited that she could hear something inside the eggs. In one, there was a small toy compass, and she squealed with delight. This made me stop and realize that I was setting a bad example of being appreciative. After all, the event was free, so I had nothing to complain about. (Plus, there were free hot dogs and punch!) k is still at the age when she gets really excited about the little things, and I need to try to preserve that as long as possible.

Rolling Along

We're slowly getting into a routine around here. My mom helped k get ready for some Easter activities this week. On Tuesday she hid plastic eggs for k in the living room so k would know what to do this weekend. Today she brought over hardboiled eggs for k to dye.

Meanwhile, n is still trying to master tummy time. I thought he smiled at me today, but it was probably just a fluke.

Our Little n

IMG_2032

Today is n's 3 week birthday. We are having fun gradually getting to know him. Here are some random observations:
He has really light eyebrows.
He has a dimple on his left cheek.
He gets the hiccups multiple times a day. (He used to get them a lot in utero, too).
He doesn't like baths or diaper changes.
He has a seemingly endless appetite.

Catch-up With n

While we were in the hospital with k, n continued to quietly reach some milestones. His umbilical cord came off on Friday. We gave him his first bath on Saturday. (He didn't like it). Also, he managed to go from 7 lb. 4 oz. on Thursday to 8 lb. on Tuesday!

Family Visit

Unfortunate timing. D's sister came to visit us a couple of weeks ago, thinking she would see baby n, but unfortunately, he wasn't born until the next day. The trip wasn't a total loss, since she had other business to take care of, but still. Then, D's brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and parents booked flights to see baby n last Thurs...the day k landed in the hospital! Wow, the timing could not have been worse. Of course, it was no one's fault, as life is just unpredictable. D's family was very understanding of us spending most of our time in the hospital during their stay. At least we were able to go out to dinner with them, and D was able to show his parents around Dana Point and Laguna one day.
