Playdate @ Tustin Sports Park

Today I took the kids to Tustin Sports Park for a playdate with some other moms from my moms' group. It is nice because there is a big canopy over the playground equipment which really blocks a lot of the sun. When we arrived at 10 a.m., there was no one else there, but by 11 a.m. it was pretty crowded.

k liked the "baby" slide but eventually made her way up to the next biggest slide.

red outfit
I love this outfit I bought on clearance at Kohl's before n was even born. I remember thinking it would be so cute on him, and it is!

father & son
Coincidentally, D wore red to work today, too. He dressed in his Canadian "What Aboot It?" shirt for Halloween. Makes sense, since he was born in Canada.

Tokidoki @ Yogurtland!

The other day my little little sister mentioned that Yogurtland is doing a cross-promotion with Tokidoki. So, of course I had to check it out. D didn't mind because he likes Yogurtland, too. I tried the two seasonal flavors, pumpkin pie and gingerbread. Both were SO yummy. I told D to ask for one of each of the different spoons, and the employee gave us two of each kind. Score! There's going to be two more spoons released at the end of November. (We reuse the spoons at our house for k.) The employees were wearing cute Tokidoki/Yogurtland shirts, too. I think Hello Kitty should be their next cross-promotion.

How cute is this? Mozzarella and Latte are AT Yogurtland on the cup. Genius.

A Detour to Diamond Jamboree

The plan was to go to stop by Joann's for their Midnight Madness sale and then eat at a sandwich place I've been wanting to try. However, Joann's was SO crowded, so it took longer than expected. We were on our way to the restaurant when just down the street we came across the Diamond Jamboree shopping center and we were lured in by its convenience. We ended up eating Bimbimbap and Japchae ($6.99 each) in Sobahn Express, located in the food court of H Mart. They both came in a hot stone bowl, and D declared it the best Korean meal he has ever eaten. OK, I guess most Koreans would take offense at that statement, but it was good.

sobahn express
The hot stone bowls come in heavy wooden boxes. They brought ours to the table even though it seems like they made everyone else come pick them up. Maybe because we had two little ones?

rice girl
k enjoyed the food too. It wasn't too spicy, since we didn't add the hot sauce to her portion.

The parking lot was pretty crazy, just like everyone complains about. D said being there reminded him of Berkeley because there were so many Koreans. We're looking forward to try the other places.

n continues to charm us with his cuteness.

Bedtime Routine

getting ready for bed
Getting the kids ready for bed is no easy task. Our target time for getting k into bed is 7 p.m. This entails us starting the bedtime routine before 6:30. There are baths to be given, teeth to be brushed and flossed, a diaper to be changed, pajamas to be changed into, help to be given with the toilet, books to be read, a water bottle to be refilled and prayers to be said. These things are much easier if D is around to help. Then, after that, there is feeding time for n, and putting him to sleep. This can take anywhere from 15-45 minutes. How quickly this can be done determines how much "me time" I get, so it is easy for me to get testy when things don't happen on schedule. Fortunately (knock on wood) tonight everything went fairly smoothly. I was able to watch my Tivo'd The Hills and The City episodes while folding a basket of laundry without interruption! Earlier in the day I was able to clean our room for a couple of hours while my parents watched the kids. It was quite satisfying (although there is still a lot more to be done). Funny how the things that you get excited about change so much once kids come into the picture.

Tunnel of Love

tunnel n

tunnel k

k got this tunnel from Ikea as a present for her 2nd birthday. However, we kept it at my parents' house since there wasn't too much room in our condo. Now that we have some more space, k wanted to try it out again. n got in on the action too! I'm thinking about getting the Ikea igloo tent, too.

Cloudy Skies & Apple Cake

Yes, it is really starting to feel like Autumn around here. We even had a little wind and rain last night, and it was so cozy! Need to put the flannel sheets on the bed. In the past two days I've made two apple cakes. Next up will be sour cream apple pie. :)

80's revival.
headband
I bought these headbands for k in preparation for Halloween, thinking she could also wear them on regular days. However, just like all of her other barrettes and bands, she has declared, "I don't like this. It hurts me." She was willing to "put it on by myselves" and have her picture taken, though.

Meanwhile, n is busy crawling around everywhere and putting EVERYTHING in his mouth. He also has an insatiable need to crawl toward the computer in our room and reach for the blue power button.
crawling
A couple nights last week he slept 8 and 9 hours. However, since he went down around 7, this still didn't mean 8 or 9 hours of sleep for me. I am really looking forward to that day...can't believe it's been almost 7 months since that has happened!

Also, Happy Anniversary to my parents today!

Long Beach Half-Marathon

I just ran the Long Beach International City Bank half-marathon and didn't achieve my goal, but I got a personal record. I beat my last half, the 2008 Surf City USA half by 4 minutes and 33 seconds. 1:57:26 vs 1:52:53 today. I tried to run a 1:50, but could only keep with the pacer for the first 8 miles. I saw him till about 10 miles, but I kept losing ground. I am happy that I went from a 8:57 pace to a 8:37, but it wasn't that much better considering I ran the Surf City half in the rain. But a PR is a PR.

I was planning on getting to church on time, but it took 45 minutes to get my bag. JetBlue was the bag checker and lots of people said it makes me not want to fly with JetBlue. The Disneyland and Surf City marathon bag check process were better. I felt a little weird going to chuch with sweat pants and a white undershirt, but oh well. Well, it seems like my improvement on half marathons has tapered off a bit. I signed up for the Surf City Full Marathon in 2010. Hopefully I can beat my time of 4:21:56 (9:58 pace).

The Mundane and the Miserable

Haven't been updating lately, but there hasn't been any fun stuff going on. Instead, I had my flu shot, took k to the dentist, and had the plumber fix our leaking shower. We're dealing with k's cold/cough, n's eczema/sneezing and my cold that I can feel coming on.

sick girl
I don't like being sick, but I think I dislike when k is sick even more. She is just so miserable and moody, not that I can blame her. Here she is smiling, but most of the day was NOT like this, believe me.

crawling baby
n gets moody when he's not feeling well too, but since he is so little, it is not as annoying.

D's just hoping he can stay healthy through Sunday, when he runs his Long Beach 1/2 marathon!
