Fun Freebies

D often receives things at work and brings them home to share.  For example, I do not think we will need to buy another ballpoint pen, ever.  Last week he went to an alternative energy expo and brought home whoopie cushions that advertise Natural Gas.Winking smile The kids certainly had fun with those, as they had never seen one before.  He also brought home duck calls, which were another hit.

Yesterday, D brought home this cake pop that was too cute not to share.  It was in honor of one of his co-workers who is expecting a baby girl.  Congratulations James!

A Lovely Mother’s Day Weekend

019016

D was able to zip around in an MX-5 over the weekend.  He even took the kids for a test drive, but only around our neighborhood.

We hosted our small group on Friday night.  On Saturday, two of my college roommates stopped by for a short visit.  It is always fun catching up with them.

On Sunday we had breakfast at church (pancakes, eggs, fried rice and shoyu sausages + jook for those who want it).  After church we hosted a joint celebration for Mother’s Day and my dad’s birthday.  D christened our bbq that we received last year.

022

We sang happy birthday to my dad and ate this cake from Costco, which should be called “Death by Chocolate”.

One of my Mother’s Day gifts was a Grand Canyon puzzle.  Hopefully there are no missing pieces!

Last Tanaka Farms Strawberry Tour

I feel like n has been having a lot of “lasts” since he will be going to Kindergarten in September : last BSF a couple of weeks ago, last library storytime today, and last MnM meeting on Friday.  Last Friday we went on what will probably be our last Tanaka Farms strawberry tour after many years of going with our MnM group.

The berries were somewhat better than last year, I believe.

The berries were especially good where it was all muddy, which lured some pickers into the mud! (Not n, though. Winking smile).

Picture time can be chaotic with such a large group!

Organizing With Daiso Products

001

This was the sorry state of our homeschool/homework desk.  Fed up, I decided to go to Daiso for some organization help.  While we had plastic boxes for colored pencils, crayons and markers, they were not working because no one wanted to put the lids back on.  Plus, they took up too much room on the table.

002

My purchases consisted of the two trays on the left and four stackable boxes—all $1.50 each!  Fingers crossed that this system will work better and this space will not return to the chaos pictured above.

Rainbow Loom Love

We gave k a rainbow loom for her birthday back in December.  Surprisingly, n was into it, so we bought him his own loom for his birthday in March.  Being a crafty person, I like how it encourages kids to make things with their hands.  While the fad seems to have died down at k’s school, it is still going strong in our house, especially with n!

n wanted to wear all of his bracelets at once.  He has made a good number on his own.  His specialty is the “Triple Single”.

My favorite site for patterns is www.loomlove.com

Mazda Bring Your Family To Work Day

Last Thursday, n was able to go to work with D for the morning.  He was quite excited about it.  We chose not to pull k from school, although some parents did.  This was the first year that Mazda held this event, and it is nice that n has a better idea of where D goes every week day.

I joined them for lunch (taco truck) and drove n home.
